My Story
On djarama! My name is Djenaba Balde founder of Silani. I officially launched Silani in November 2019. I was born in Conakry, Guinea, and immigrated to the U.S at 5 years old. I always knew that I wanted to follow in my mother’s and father's footsteps and become a businesswoman. Like most people, I was working a 9-5, and let's just say it wasn't my dream job. One day I decided I had enough of working at a job that I didn't love and didn't fit in at.
It was all a dream. The name Silani was created by me, the first part of the name Silani is Sila. Sila is my nickname given to me by my grandfather. In Fulani, Sila means copper which represents beauty, power, and strength. The last part of the name Silani comes from the word Fulani. I have always been proud of my Fulani heritage so I decided to showcase the beauties of the Fulani culture by incorporating it into my business. Silani is a West African Jewelry brand that is inspired by Fulani culture and is an advocate for Luxury African Brands. I hope you love the pieces as much as I enjoyed creating them. Thank you for supporting Silani!
